Why Cannabis Grinders Are a Wise Investment
Cannabis burns much a lot more smoothly when ground, making the hot air (for vaping) and flame (for smoking) pass through it more freely and evenly. Also, this helps prevent the scorching of leaf matter and stems that destroy the taste and offer almost zero plant resin. That makes weed grinders a must for smokers and vapers.
It's hard to match good solid metal grinders' heft and feel. Fans of the culture usually love the feeling of cold aluminum or steel in their hands while grinding their herb. Starting at $20, grinders are made in various types and sizes for all budgets and preferences.
Hand grinders have small pegs or teeth that are made to grind the herb with the twisting of the two pieces of the grinder (when using a three or four-piece model, the two top pieces. About the only issue with a circular grinder is that they tend to clog or become sticky with use.
When more herb goes into a grinder -- especially flower, which is particularly resinous -- it becomes more easily resistant to twisting. Generally, grinders will start to squeak when compacted cannabis gets in the way of the two grinding plates. Most grinders though are very easy to clean and will immediately go back to being squeak-free.
Some grinders are made with teeth that are sharpened, beveled or curved, purportedly to make cannabis cutting smoother and more accurate, and simply to make operation easier. For a lot of manufacturers, grinding tooth designs can reduce sticking and clogging, as opposed to standard pegs, which can actually make plant matter wrap itself around them.
One-Chamber or Three-Chamber?
To kief or not to kief is the usual question when it comes to premium quality grinders that are made particularly for cannabis. Kief is generally composed of around 30 to 60 percent THC, which means it can be a powerful addition to a joint or bowl of ground cannabis. It can be smoked alone as well for fast relief, potency, and flavor.
There are several types of hand grinders today which are manually operated, single-chamber grinders being the cheapest and most straightforward. These grinders come in puck-like forms in a range of sizes, from around 1.5-2 two inches in diameter up to nearly four inches for big models.
A lot of three-chamber and four-chamber grinders are made with a special, extremely fine screen that can catch the trichomes of the bud as most plant matter is prevented from getting through. There is a spare chamber in the grinder where this kief is stored. Pricier kiefing grinders of this type allow users to catch dry kief, or trichomes and trichome heads, from the herb which can be smoked or vaped afterwards, or used to produce small rosin quantities.
