So What is "Aviation Archaeology" ?Aviation archaeology, like traditional archaeology, is the study of the people and places that make up the history of aviation, especially through accidents and old abandoned airfields. Although there are many broad facets to this field, my main area of concentration are aircraft crash sites, and historical locations within the state of Texas. Texas may not have all of the fancy flight test centers and home to unique one-of-a-kind aircraft, but its role in aviation has had a far reaching influences from the birthplace of military aviation to current involvements in the space program.
The main goal of this website is the documentation of these historical sites in this great state. Debris and wreckage of these sites is slowly deteorating, and suburban development is encroaching upon some of these sites. It is imperative that these be documented as they exist before they disappear. All material on this website is free to share. I will not provide exact locations of these sites since I feel that they must be protected from the general public due to some of the inconsiderate sort that abuse the mission of what aviation archaeologists are trying to do. So please do not inquire about such things. There is plenty of resources here, and links ot other sources that will help you in finding the exact location of these sites. |
